Sleep Well Smoothie

By  |

This sleep well smoothie was a bit of an experiment of mine. Not being a great Horlicks lover and not a drinker of cows’ milk I wanted to create a healthy drink that would relax my bones and help me drift off to sleep.

I also wanted something that was alcohol free.

I knew nutmeg was great for the immune system but it also helps you sleep, so this smoothie creation is great before bedtime.

Sometimes, I even like to have mine warm, what could be better than curling up on the couch with a delicious warming nightcap that will send you off to a peaceful sleep………. Yawwwwwwnnnn

So this recipe serves one, but if you have a big enough blender (I have a Vitamix) then you can double, triple or beyond the ingredients to cater for the whole family. It’s non-alcoholic so you can even give the kids a mug full.

Delicious, creamy and rich, it’s a mug of goodness.

Sleep Well Smoothie Ingredients1

Sleep Well Smoothie Ingredients

  • 1 handful of spinach
  • 1 cup of almond milk
  • 1 apple
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 handful of almonds
  • Coconut water

Method

  1. Put all of your ingredients into your blender cup.
  2. Fill up to the max line with coconut water.
  3. Blitz for at least 45 seconds until the ingredients are thoroughly combined and smooth.

When I have this smoothie cold I like to pour it into a little glass bottle and add a straw, just so I can feel like a big kid!

When I’ve heated the almond milk and made a hot smoothie, I’ll pour it into my favourite mug.

There’s nothing better on a cold winters evening than PJs, blanket on the couch, this sleep well smoothie and a good film.

That’s my Christmas Eve sorted and the film will be ‘The Holiday’, well just like every Christmas Eve for the last few years, that’s my film of choice.

If you’re anything like me, this sleep well smoothie will have you sleeping like a baby in no time!
